Date these wrenches

Post by jyancho » Tue Dec 20, 2022 1:56 pm

I’m working to build a tool kit for my 1915 touring. I found two T-1387 wrenches one having markings of “Moore drop forged” and one with no markings other than part number and ford script. Would either of these match what was included in ‘15?

I believe the top wrench is non-Ford. The second one is pre-26, but I don't now how far back it goes. Check the encyclopedia.

I have 3 19-24 Model T’s but I never have tried to put original tool kits together for them. I have several T tools so my question is this. The older T’s have a older looking spark plug wrench but not completely sure about the rest.

Do some of the tools kits have crossover tools that were used in kits from one year to another or were they just used for certain years. So would a 15 tool kit differ in some ways from a 24.
Thanks

Thanks Steve, they both have a ford script and T-1387 on them.

That top wrench by Moore Forge, with the script on the upper edge of the monkey end is correct for 1915.

Here are a few of the correct tools, acknowledgement and credit of chopped photo to Russ Furstnow, c/o his complete article of Tools and Display Items for the Model T, Model T Times, No. 438, Mar-Apr 2022

My version of a '15...this time out of the roll...(yet as the late Bruce McCalley would say even on his published 'bible'---always open revision based on proven and verified fact :)

Yes. By 1924 Ford had quit supplying the screwdriver, and put a screwdriver tip on the pliers handle.

When did T1917 band adjusting wrench assume the diamond shape between the ends in later production?
I have a much bulkier version with large Ford script in my 1912 toolkit.

Hi Rob!
Since the post is about tool kits and wrenches for old Ford cars did any wrenches or tool kits come with the Model K Ford? I’ll bet if they did they are pretty hard to find. Just curious since your pretty knowledgeable about the K’s. Thanks

John,
Yes, a tool roll/pouch. I’ve not seen one, just the advertisement for the set in a Ford sundries book:

Thanks for the information. There’s probably no way to know if the very early Ford tools were even marked Ford. Like a lot of old tools if they probably found their way for other uses and ended up used up and thrown away at a scrapper.

Could someone post a close up picture of the 1915 pliers and screwdriver?

Here is the drawing someone posted for the screwdriver…I do not have a drawing on pliers

The driver shaft is square, not round stock -

George, that's the drawing my wood turner uses to make the blanks for the screwdrivers I rebuild. I have a couple on the go at the moment. Those square shafts are really hard to find.

You may wish to start a new thread seeking info on 1915 pliers as it is burried in this thread. It would get more notice in a seperate thread.
