A new year start and new challenges arrive.
The first one: Putting a FRONTENAC head on a 1925 engine and make it run as it should be.
A while ago I found a Frontenac head and Winfiekd carburetor, now I am willing to set them on a 1925 engine.
There for I have a few questions:
- Are the head gaskets still available and where tobuy?
- Where can I find the rods between the push rods and the valve rockers? If I need to make them, what kind of steal I should use?
- Can I use High compresion pistons in the enginge with the Frontenac head?
- Can I use the standard ignition on the engine or should I go for a more modern ignition?
- What is the right gap between rocker and valve?
There will be more questions as I start the build.

Looks like a great start to me! Hopefully the head has no major repairs needed, and the carb looks to be in runnable shape too.
What is the serial number on the head…? There should be a “T” or “R” stamped before and after the number. “R” heads are high compression, and may be adequate compression ratio already. “T” heads will be equivalent compression ratio to a stock flat head, pop up pistons would be nice.
There are adapters available to convert your carb to a sidedraft for easy installation, or you can build an elbow. Check the serial number in the carb bowl, it should read SRBB ”U” XXXX. The “U” designates updraft. Either updraft or downdraft bowls can be used as sidedraft.

Head gaskets are available, I just got a few from Lang’s.
I have extra pushrods that are correct for Fronty.
High compression pistons are a plus, increasing the compression ratio is a benefit.
I know of one Fronty that runs on coils and preforms very nice.
Valve lash at .012” to .015” seems to be a good range.
