Height of 1910 Touring car?

I am looking at a 1910 Touring car without a windshield and would like to know how tall the car is with the top up and to the top of the windshield. I need to make sure it can fit in my garage. I would like to put a new windshield on it. The current owner never put the top on it and the car does not have a windshield, although it does have a top.

I recently estimated the heights of a 1910 Tourabout and a 1910 Touring by standing next to it and touching the top. The Tourabout was 7' 6" (90inches) & the Touring 7'4" (86inches). Standard garage doors have an opening height of 7ft. However most doors hang just below that when rolled up. In any case you'll need an 8ft door.
Model T heights of the same year & model can vary a few inches depending on spring stiffness.

Having personally transported over 450 Model T
vehicles of every configuration - I have learned
every one is unique.

The best thing to do is measure the actual
Model T in question - then factor in a difference
in height if you plan to change wheels
and/or tires.

My guess is it WON'T FIT in an "ordinary" house garage door opening. I know my '13 will not, my former '12 Comm. RPU would not, the '25 Fordor barely makes it as does ironically the '11 Torpedo. The torpedo clears by about a mere half an inch.

Our 1911 touring will definitely NOT fit under a standard garage door with the top up. No problem with the top down but windshield up. I suspect that a 1910 touring is of similar height. However, as FJ mentioned, they can vary a bit; especially with the earlier top bows where the top bows tubes did not have the radius built into them like they did starting in the late teens I believe. I went out into the garage to get the dimension to the top of the windshield, but then remembered that the car is currently on jacks for the winter...

Although these are called "two man tops", I almost always put the top up and down by myself, including repositioning the front bow into the stored position. In fact I prefer doing it myself unless my wife is there to help. She's done it enough that she knows how to do it. It is really not that hard to do it yourself once you figure out how, but you do need to be in the car. I put it up/down by standing in the rear passenger area. Trying to get someone to help who's never done it risks them scratching the car with the front bow.

With that said, the runabout tops are shorter and I can get our 15 runabout out of the garage with the top up. That is nice when I want to go for a spin and not wanting to mess with putting the top down on the touring.

Neal,
You could measure the height of the car on Jack stands and then subtract the distance from the bottom of the tires to the floor.

I have a 1914 Touring and with the top down the windshield of the car will just fit under the garage door. When I have the top up there is no way I can get the car into the garage. Usually I disconnect the front of the carriage top from the windshield and let it go back a little and it will lower the top just enough to fit under the door. The best thing to do is to measure your car and your door.

I'm glad to see this thread since I'll be picking up a 26 touring soon and was wondering the same thing. My first question is how tall is your garage door? I see others saying 7' is standard, I thought 8' was standard, if not I know they are pretty common, at least that's what I have. Either way the height of yours is what matters.

Keith, being as how the '26 "improved car" does sit about 2" lower, it should fit a standard house garage door. Yes, they're 7' for the most part. A friend's '23 actually just barely makes it under his standard garage door, and another friend's '26 easily fits through his. But of course, you should take measurements before driving it in, unless you wanna risk buying a new top!

your improved car should easily slide through a 7' garage door opening. At the worst you may have to adjust the garage door opener to stop the door just a little higher. My '13 would clear the door opening by about 3/4" and your car is a good deal shorter.

My 1910 Canadian Touring Model T is 2200 high with the Top up so that’s the maximum.
The Garage opening 2400 so that’s a 8” clearance in the old language!😀
When towing the car in my enclosed trailer I fold the roof back. Tyres are 30 x 31/2 all round.

Wish MY '13 would! It even came with "complimentary holes" in the top from the previous owner forgetting about that!! Oh well, she sports a new top and new correct boot outa the incident now anyway. :lol:

With the top up my '10 will fit through my 8' garage height but I have to block the garage door up to gain a few inches. It's a tight fit but it works.

The cars vary in height, and the condition of the individual car will affect its exact measurement. Cars bounce, too, and change height in response to tire pressure and vehicle loading, including the amout of fuel aboard. Garage doors may not be square, and may have sagged or settled, and driveways and garage floors are likely to be irregular in any number of ways. I'd want at least a couple of inches to spare.
