Where Can I Get a Ahooga Horn for My 1927 Coupe?

Post by BLB27 » Fri Feb 24, 2023 5:37 pm

I have the bracket that attaches a horn to the water inlet piece. I want to install a Ahooga horn at that location. What is the availability of those horns? I haven't yet, but I will try the Classified Form.

There are several on Ebay. They have them fairly often. Check them out.

There are reproductions and there are original Sparton brand used on Model A's, None will fit you original 26-26 horn bracket as Ford used from the factory. You'll have to modify or make your own bracket.

I purchased the horn bracket from Snyder's( T-6437-DX). Will this fit a Ahooga horn?

I have found them at swap meets. It is good if someone has a battery to test the horn before you buy it. The best ones are the spartan Model A horns but also the most expensive. I have an off brand one on one of my T's which works when the generator is turning but not so well on just battery.

The Spartans on Ebay are 75.00 and up depending on condition. Really nice ones can be around 200.00.

You'll have to re-drill one hole in the horn flange to use the T bracket - only one hole is available as is.

When I bought my original 1926 coupe in 1970, it had both the original Ford script goose horn and a 6V Klaxon 8C ahoogah horn. I really love the sound of the Klaxon horn and removed the goose horn even though the goose horn is the correct one for the ‘26. There are almost always 6V Klaxon horns available on eBay for reasonable prices. There is an 8C for sale now on eBay, (item #364151220072). It is currently up to $37.00 with 8 bids and ends in 2 days. If that one is not for you, keep watching and they will come up, but you can get a better value on one that needs cosmetic restoration. Just go to eBay and search “6V Klaxon 8C horn”. I would pay up to $150.00 for a really nice original one. Maybe more. Even if you got one with scratches and rust on it, with the abilities you have shown on your coupe restoration, you can easily restore it to like new condition for a fraction of what a restored one would cost. These are photos of a horn I have. The information on the tab is hard to read, so I have written it out.

I would appreciate comments about the horn.

That's a nice Ahooga motor driven horn - similar to a Sparton and a few others. Easy to service the brushes & armature - a couple drops of a good light oil at the armature pivots then adjust to your liking !

Not mine on eBay scroll down this link for lots of pictures https://www.ebay.com/itm/304799202009?h ... BMzOzM_9Fh
Be aware the term "Ahooga" is often misused to describe the style and not always the sound
