Pop-Up Model T Event: Nethercutt Museum, Thurs May 18
My beloved Michelle and I will be in Southern California next week. She and our son's family will be at Disneyland on May 17-19 and I'll be finding my own fun. Not that I couldn't join them, but my tolerance for all-day-Disney is similar to hers for all-day-old-cars. Best that we both follow our passions and share stories & pix in the evenings.
Anyway, I've booked a 10:00 AM tour at the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar, CA on Thursday May 18. This will be a fine day out and a real contrast to my usual old car activities.
I'm hoping a few local T folks would like to join me at the Nethercutt... could be for the tour and some lunch/tire-kicking after, or just the lunch, and/or (best of all?) some vintage motoring in the afternoon. The formal tours must be pre-booked and there is a $10 charge. Tour details and full info on the museum website https://www.nethercuttcollection.org.
Who's in? Feel free to send a PM. post to this thread or call/text my cell 78oh-445-oh156.

Well worth the tour fee. I’ve been many times over the years, one of my favorite collections of amazing cars. If you haven’t been, or want to go again, this opportunity is for you.

Chris - note that the Nethercutt is in Sylmar - north end of the San Fernando Valley (Selma is south of Fresno). The Nethercutt is one of the great museums - for automobiles and a lot more. Enjoy!

Thanks Chuck, it's been fixed. Sylmar was my intention; spell-check thought otherwise.

Well, all youse guys that could have visited the Nethercutt last Thursday, but didn't, missed one fine time indeed. Our curator/tour guide was outstanding and the collections—way more than great old cars— were awesome.
Ten stars out of Five!
The following day was all Model T and equally memorable... will post pix and video soon.

I would love to have been there. That's one museum I haven't been to. What I have seen of the cars was wonderful. I don't know how often any of those cars get out and, on the road, but in 1985, 4 of them made it to McCall, ID with staff members. J.B. and Dorothy were registered but I didn't see them. The cars were a 1913 Mercedes Benz.
Thanks for telling us of your visit.
Rich
A 1913 Lozier
A 1915 Packard.
And a 1915 Ford Couplet which I should have gotten pictures of. The '14 and '15 Fords were overshadowed by the many bigger, brassier cars. I was so surprised and pleased to see these on a tour. It was my first HCCA Tour and in my just finished "15 T Runabout. The Nethercutt cars were driven on all days and polished vigorously in between. Thanks for telling us of your visit.
Rich
When did I do that?

Two wonderful museums. The large collection is open to all. The other building with cars and other, one has to make a reservation. I have been there several times, but now at almost 91, I do not travel out to California. I have been told, that once a year, employees can chose one of the cars to dirive to the company picnic. I would chose the Oldsmobile Limited, a 1911 Town Car.

Rich - the cars still get exercised - locally and at events. The Nethercutt’s 1931 Bugatti Type 51 Dubos Coupe was at the Benedict Castle Concours in Riverside this past Sunday - shown by J.B. And Dorothy’s great grandson. It looked and sounded great!

The theme of the collections is "Functional Fine Art". We were told every car was fully functional and ready to go, right down to having keys in the ignition, and all were driven "in the neighbourhood" at least once a year. From what I could see of the dashboards that was very much the case.Rich Eagle wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 11:07 amI don't know how often any of those cars get out and, on the road, ...
Dashboard photos below are a 1958 Fiat Jolly Model 400 and a 1932 Maybach DS8 Zeppelin V12. The 1933 Duesenberg SJ Arlington Torpedo "Twenty Grand" was apparently run up to 120 mph following restoration, but presumably not in the immediate neighbourhood.
