Public service announcement
Good morning for him Chums
I know you folks already know this, but just a reminder…. Be very careful out there in the buying parts via the classified board…. I recently put out a wanted ad for running boards for my 1927 tutor, and have had no less than three fake calls… one person whose area code was from Western Massachusetts told me that she was located in Alaska …. and why I couldn’t come to inspect and just pick the running boards up…. another person sent me pictures from long ago expired ad…. All of them conveniently had a PayPal or Venmo account…… I’ve done a lot of purchases over the Internet over the years regarding my antique tractor hobby……. and 98% of the time I meet some of the nicest folks on the planet….just a reminder….the other 2 percent are alive and well…lurking!
Yours Aye!
Ed

He sent me the SAME info offering me a TT hood for $75. He actually never responded back when I asked him about his location and his Ma phone number. Ha ha We can never be too cautious. So far everyone I have dealt with here has been Great

Re: Public service announcement
I advertised for a peddlers box for my '14 roadster. The Alaskan struck me as well.
He sent a photo from google!! I asked where he was located, Alaska was the answer. I asked why his area code was from the east coast, no answer, I asked about shipping he quoted me $75.00 from Alaska to Seattle!!! I told him I had the cash but needed his bank routing number to electronically transfer the money. I then told him to tell me where in Alaska he was located as I have friends all over the state and I'm sure someone was close enough to pick it up for me and they would have the cash. Finally I told him to take a photo of the peddlers box with a current Alaska newspaper in the photo. He gave up and never contacted me again.

Re the phone number: Lots of people in this day and age bring their phone number with them where ever they move. So yes, you can have an east coast area code and live in Alaska or anywhere else.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: Public service announcement
And don't forget the guy in Florida who will be happy to send you a forged check for your stuff, he'll have someone deliver it and pick up the parts as he's currently working in (insert state here) with an Arizona phone number, he'll even throw in extra money if you'll pay the delivery guy...
When I sold my car (biggest... mistake.... ever...) this guy tried 3 different times, claiming to be 3 different people, all from this huge farm in central Miami, all with a 480 area code, but allegedly working from Washington/Atlanta/New Jersey, but I'm not supposed to realize that...

Another potential scam is the restoration of license plates. I lost a four-number 1927 Massachusetts plate to a dietbag in New York State.

Absolutely, to roaming phone numbers. I'm not saying there aren't dishonest people out there trying to make a buck of honest people, But a lot of people have phone numbers that would 'raise eyebrows'' if tried to connect them to where they live. I have a cell phone number that is issued in the Houston, TX area, but I live in San Antonio. My brother-in-law, has a San Antonio phone number, but lives in Green Bay, WI.Mark Gregush wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 1:21 amRe the phone number: Lots of people in this day and age bring their phone number with them where ever they move. Re: Public service announcement
If you are ever contacted by someone you don't know - email, phone or letter - for something you didn't have request - its a 99.99999999999% scam.
However the Forum is an open book and its easy for someone to create an account and then contact you. So it always good to see when he became a member. This can be looked up
Even "surveys" can scam you by recording your voice and apply the "yes" to a product order.
PayPal is my preferred method & I have made claims & won. Any kind of check/money order can be a fake (even Cashiers or Bank) and you need to wait till it clears the bank, may take several days, & you'll need to contact the bank to find that out or check your account on-line.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
