Should Kevlar bands be soaked in oil prior to installation ?

I did let them soak for a while for my 24 Coupe. I don’t know about anybody else. It won’t hurt anything since they run in oil anyway. But others will have other opinions as they always do I’m sure.

That just makes an aggravating job more aggravating! ;)

I install dry onto the steel bands and insert dry into the transmission (with hog's head removed). Then after hog's head is securely assembled, I VERY SLOWLY pour 2 quarts of oil OVER the bands and the remainder into the normal oil filler up front. Then idle the engine for about a minute and then walk away from it for a day.

Everything is fine the next day

I do it the same as Scot says. Overnite the oil wicks up into the band to totally soak it.

P.S. I also leave the bands in a loose setting until just before starting. Then do a rough tightening.

I install the linings dry onto the bands, and then soak the lot in oil prior to fitting to the trans.
