OCF 2023

Post by Ed Baudoux » Thu Jul 20, 2023 10:12 am

We like to stop at the Ford Piquette Plant on Friday, before we check into the Greenfield Village Old Car Festival.
I'd like to unload our old Ford at the plant, and drive to see the Michigan Central Station. it looks like a 5 mile found trip.
Are any of you interested in doing this?
Do any of you know if the fenced parking lot will be available on that day? I've emailed the plant, and Steve S.

I believe last year we unloaded at Fairlane shopping center and then drove to Piquette for all the EFR pictures. Afterward I drove to see the Michigan Central station. Wonder how much it has changed in a year?

We're looking forward to seeing you this year Dave.
I've heard that the plant has possibly sold the Studebaker portion of real estate, and the fenced parking may not be available. I've got no response from emails. I'll probably drive the tow rig over there to see it in person.

Can you ditch the tow rig at THF and drive to Piquette? When does OCF parking open? Checking in begins Thursday, so maybe parking is open then.

Ed, I never got your email. We will be arriving so far Friday, but this is my first time here so I really do not know what is going on when we arrive. I also develpoed two bulging disks in my back, so that has put this trip at risk of being cancelled. I will have to wait and see.

Good luck with your back issues! I had emailed Steve Shotwell, as well as the Piquette Plant.

That's a good possibility I suppose. I'll have the 30 A Fordor this time. My experiences with travel between the Piquette Plant and the Village have not been great.

Maybe I'm living in a fool's paradise, but I've driven up McGraw to West Grand (and back) four times, and nobody has ever bothered me. :)

I wont make it this year. I waited too long to register. My buddys are in the same boat. Dodges and Grahms wont be there. They said they have enough cars. I hope they get back to pre covid numbers. 2 years ago the streets were empty. You guys will have to take lots of photos so I can get my fix.

Dallas

I have not heard yet. They said they would let us know after August 1 if we were in.
Maybe because I have a speedster and you only have a truck. :) :) :)

Ed

I will come even if I cannot bring a car. Maybe I will have to bum a ride.

Also planning on Yooper tour, but I will not make reservations this far in advance.

Steve

Plan on driving to the Fairland shopping center when you get to Dearborn, unless they
change their procedures. Best of luck with your back.

It seems they fill up PDQ these days. That's why I apply first thing in the morning on June 1 when registration opens. They always say notification will be in August but I got mine before the end of June this year. Seems to me it came early last year too.

There is a pretty good size dirt parking lot across the street from Piquette.

I do not have enough trust to leave my rig out in the open in downtown Detroit.

How many others beside Steve have already been admitted? I guess I have to wait another 2 weeks to find out.

Update:
I received an email from the Piquette Plant.
The fenced area is not available for parking, as the Studebaker portion of the property is under construction. I'll likely drive the RV and trailer over to see Michigan Central Station.

If anyone had a little spare time when you're there it'd be good to know more about 773 Bellevue as discussed here:

https://www.mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34100
https://www.mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic. ... 75#p240642

I believe David was going to take a look but nothing heard back since, getting some detailed information on the site before anything further happens to the building (if it hasn't already!) would be great. I understand the present address number is 3195 Bellevue Ave or thereabouts.

Luke.

This year will be my first time to go in as a spectator. I have always been able to ride with Randall Anderson (RIP) in the past.

A few weeks ago we had a one day tour from Piquette thru the Detroit-Windsor tunnel to an event in Canada. We left our trailers and vehicles in the gravel lot across from piquette with no issues. I don't know who you heard from at Piquette but you might try Steve Shotwell for advice <sshotwell AT casualts DOT org>
