Re: WHO IS MAKING TAPERED FRONT SPRINGS?
Stephen, as I told you and sent pictures of my new tapered from leaf springs, they are not like the originals.
Advertise that you need some nice original springs that are not tired.
There are plenty out there if you get after it.
Hershey swap meet is pretty soon.
You are intending to use these springs on a car that will be judged so you need originals either cleaned up or in really nice condition.
All the vendors have used parts, call them!

Close enough is not good enough! If you are going to remake a part do it correctly just like the original. Many years ago, I started making exact reproductions for that very reason. There is no excuse for cutting corners.

Stephen,
Tapered leaf springs are more difficult to produce, why? Because the temper on the ends are different than the centers, this is called progression hardening. I can almost guarantee the reproductions do not work as well because they are tempered as one equal temper. Try finding a really good blacksmith, they are out there now as hobbyist, and they like finding the old ways to retremper/arch yours back.

So Larry… are you going to make me a spring or share the contact of the individual doing so?

That’s very interesting. I did not know the ends had a different temper, I simply thought they were thinner, and that made the car ride better. Thank you for the information, Hank.

Re: WHO IS MAKING TAPERED FRONT SPRINGS?
I know the feeling. I bought a 1913 several years back that had an aftermarket front spring. I advertised and advertised, and finally did find an original. I believe part of the problem is people who have converted 1916 and later T's to so called 1915's. This is especially true here in California. Keep on trying! It took me over a year to find one. You won't regret being patient.

You might try to contact Bob , FATMAN on the forum email, for original used leaves or spring.Stephen1915 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 11:26 amLooking for contact information on the person(s) that make tapered front springs. In need of a NEW one.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: WHO IS MAKING TAPERED FRONT SPRINGS?
I rummaged around in the parts loft and found this: It’s a peculiar taper leaf front spring. Holes in the main leaf for oilers. The main leaf and top 2 leafs have bolt holes but other 4 don’t. And 2 clips are riveted to a leaf. $100 should be reasonable enough…..

Re: WHO IS MAKING TAPERED FRONT SPRINGS?
Appreciate the help and offers so far, I have reached out to Bob. I have bought many quality parts from him in the past. Hopefully he can help in this case.
The spring style I am after is the type with the curled over leaf that retains the spring clip bolt. The reproductions currently made are made this way, and are very close, close enough that I can alter it to my standards. If I could get the name and number of the gentleman that was supplying them to Lang’s it would make things easy.
With all that said, I am still on the hunt.

Ford made the springs two ways in 1913 &1914, with and without curled leafs.
