1924 Model T Racer

Post by Mr Model T Ford » Thu Aug 31, 2023 2:52 pm

Good Day
I am building a 1922 Model T single seater racer/speedster. I want to install the steering in the centre of the car above the hogs head.
Any idea what steering box can I use that will fit some where around the year model.
I will love to keep the car some year between 1920 to1926 period correct.
Thanks

Pretty much the default steering box used back in the day was from a Franklin automobile. Because of their construction, it was pretty simple to add an additional support tube for the right side, allowing it to be mounted with two pretty simple support brackets coming up off the frame on both sides of the cowl.

I have an original center mount steering gear. I believe it is a franklin. I was going to use it in a 1928 single man sprint car that I restored several years ago. I found a different center mount unit unit that worked out better for my car.

I can send you photos and measurments if you are interested.
