brass tags

Post by Melba Nolan » Sat Sep 02, 2023 3:12 pm

Can someone tell me what these brass tags are for. They are round and oval with numbers on them. Also on a steering shaft what is the difference between a round top and a triangle top. Couldn.t post picture.

Looking at those tags with numbers, would they indicate a date like 321, that could match March of 2021?. Some of us who do rebuild things could put such a tag on a differential housing, steering column starter or generator, or even have numbers impressed into the wood of an ignition coil..... That would indicate when the item was rebuilt or refurbished.

the oval tags are about 2" wide and about 1" 1/4 high. some have. some of the numbers are: 0 - 2 1/4 - 1/2 -2 1/4 - 1 3/4 -1 - 2 and the round ones are an inch in diameter with the number 2 and 150. the 1.5 inch diameter has 544 and the others are blank

Regarding the steering shaft - only round ones I've seen were the reproduction Texas T Parts - Ford had a triangular top.
