Monday’s Jelf Report

Post by George N Lake Ozark » Mon Sep 18, 2023 7:14 pm

🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞 Excellent Progress Report On Steve Jelf!! 🛞🛞🛞🛞🛞
One of the women (Katie Hartup) who witnessed Steve's accident, and came to his aid immediately, comes to visit Steve every couple of days. What an angel. She had some positive things to say about today's visit with him!
He actually engaged in conversation with him. At one point she asked him if he'd like to call/talk with anyone.
He said, "Yes. Abraham Lincoln."
She thought he'd done lost his mind for sure, but he smiled and blew air out of his mouth in an attempt to laugh.
Just to make sure, she asked, "Who killed Lincoln?"
Steve uttered, "Booth."
Katie asked, "Are you sure?"
Steve replied, "Uhhh, it's common sense." 😆
As Katie was getting ready to leave, she put on the TV for him and asked what he wanted next.
Steve replied, "To sit up...Family Feud." (This was shocking as heck to me, bless him. :D )
Nurse Azeem had similar good news this evening, saying that he's much more alert. His short term memory is still sketchy, but knows his own name and DOB.
Still in a good bit of pain ("All over", he says) and their luck getting him eating by mouth has been a crapshoot. So he's back on a feeding tube until he gets a little better.
Pastor Brent came by earlier this AM, right after physical therapy. He was just given more pain meds, so the visit was less than exciting. ZZZzzzzzz ;)
But for the first time, the nurse felt very optimistic about Steve getting really better! Steve's brother is also coming to see him this week. Fantastic! Smiles all around! :)
Cheers,
Molly <3

Thank you George and Molly, and Katie H! So many of us too far away rely upon your kindness and willingness to report his condition since we cannot be there ourselves.

My thoughts and prayers are sent out to Steve often every day.

And George? You better be getting well also!

Glad to hear Steve is getting better!
Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.
The past is only simple because hindsight is 20/20.

I'm pleased and relieved to hear that Steve is making definite progress. My dad had a bad stroke, and it was some time before he was "himself". Eventually he got back to normal except for some mobility issues, which he found work-arounds for.

A man's gotta eat! and Steve has his favorites.. Think the Granola & Kroger Peanuts (may be made by Fishers similar shaped jar)
These are pictures he posted of on previous OCF trips
I bet this dish of Tomato's & (Pickles or Cucumbers) ,; with Fig newtons, Mozzarella sticks, bananas would really lift his spirit. Looks like he likes salt & pepper too

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Steve's food looks good to me, but I'd trade the Peanuts for Pistachios.
