Rear axel seal replacement
I am replacing my outer and inner rear axel seals on my 1913 T. When I removed the outer original Ford bearing, the axel sprung to one side by 1/4". The bearing slide out just fine by hand. Should I be concerned the axel shaft is sitting in the housing to one side without the outer bearing? Is there any impact to installing the inner seals?

Re: Rear axel seal replacement
The outer bearing will center the axle.
However, the axle not wanting to naturally lay centered(not including gravity) Is a strong indication the housing or axle is bent. Rotate the axle 180 degrees to rule out the axle being bent.

Did the 180 degree turn, no change in position. However the axel shaft easily goes to center with little fore, like simple finger force. Could the differential be the problem?

If you do not have any pressure wear on the bearing sleeve, then don't worry about it. Fitting an inner seal can put the sleeve out of the housing some that you will need cut some off to stop the outer seal from rubbing on the drum.

There is extra wear in the carrier to axle gear fit that allows the easy movement.kommandant 95 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 6:37 pmDid the 180 degree turn, no change in position. Probably not serious for the need of a soon tear down.
If this is a high annual or long distance T, I would attend to it, otherwise run it. Its not like you are going to do extra damage to the carrier.
I suspect that when you do tear it down the carrier will need re-bushing/replacing & the axle tube will need straightening.

Have you tried adjusting your radius rods to see if you can center the axles? It is easy to overtighten them upon assembly and pull the housings out of straight.
