Odd running board fitment on my 1913, any ideas?
Hello all, I have a question about fitment of my front fender and running boards, when I bought the car they were pushed down where the rear tab of the front fender meet with the front of the running board. I took em apart and those bolt holes aren't even close to lining up?!
Wanted to ask what I am missing here? I am pretty sure these are the correct running boards but my bolt holes end up about 1" apart at normal level height with the fender. (in the pics they are unbolted)
Any insights, or solutions?
Thanks,
James Chochole

Do you have the correct wood block in there?

Do the holes in your running board brackets line up?

So, yes I did have wooden blocks but once I took it apart the holes are still at a huge angle and the bolts would not cleanly go in. The holes simply do not line up and I've never had that before.
The gent before me solved the problem by pushing down and bolting the holes once they lined up but it looked very odd and put the running boards at a downward angle towards the front.
My only solution was maybe to make thicker wooden blocks and jack it all up from the bottom and try lining up the holes that way.

Try using correct 13-14 running boards, and using the correct bolts with them! If the front fenders are reproductions, they usually need a bit of tweaking to get them to work. If the wood blocks are repro's they can be problematic as well.

Put the emergency brake on. Remove front fender(s). Grab that fender/headlamp bracket and pull it forward until fender and rb holes match up.

Yay other George!
When I put a car back together, I always just hang the front fender in space...then do the fender bolt up to the running board and the back fender with the bolts but hand tight...and then move/lift/angle/twist the front fender iron until it all works for bolt up and level...haven't had one yet that has failed to come in.

Part of George's fix needs to consider the bolts that hold the apron down on the frame. These need to be loosened to allow the fender to move. If it can't move there, the rear cant shift. You may need to elongate the frame bolt holes a little. See if you can put all the fastenings in before tightening any of them. Levering stuff into place and doing things up under tension might well induce cracking in the panels at stress points.
Hope this helps.
