Question on 1913 Windshield
I have a '13 Runabout and am adding a windshield, but I can't see any existing bolt holes in the body where the braces would go (see pics) so just wanted to ask how and what type fasteners to use? Wood screws or drill straight through to the outside of the sheet metal?

Thank you, Kim. That makes sense, I appreciate the pics, but it also makes me wonder why my '13 doesn't have any evidence of having had a windshield.
I have the firewall brackets that pinch the bottom of the windshield together but nothing on either side for the supports....strange.

Just looked at my 13 Roadster body on top of my office. Guess what: no holes for braces either. If I get a chance will get ladder and get pictures. Dan

Well isn't that odd too, I wonder why? Is it possible that some early 13's were using the 1912 model supply of windshields at the factory?
I kinda doubt that but I learned never to say never. Just strange.

It looks like the top bead should be shaped so as to go around the bolt. My guess is that it is very early and had a '12 style windshield with the brass support rods attached by the radiator.

This poses an interesting question. Mine is like Kim's. I wonder if the body maker and/or brand of windshield has anything to do with it ? Wilson made the body on mine, Vanguard is the make of the windshield. (I'm working on the car, windshield is removed)
Please note the pinstripe is incorrect - it is much too broad, and should run horizontally at the belt line low enough to clear the bolt head.

I have two 1913's, and both have the bolt going through the body. Dan Killecut's car is extremely early. I assume the early bodies probably used a wood screw for this purpose, and it was found not to be adequate for the purpose. There are at least three, maybe four brands of windshields used in 1913, and the support rods vary in length. Both of my cars have Rands windshields, and one has equal halves, and the other doesn't.

This is Dan Killecut's 1913. It looks like the windshield brace on it was attached with a woodscrew from the inside.

This is the real reason for this forum! I know a lot about 1913's, but this is welcome information for me, and the rest of the hobby. It appears from Dan's post, that the windshield rod support bolt was installed BEFORE the sheet metal, and that relocating it just speeded up the assembly process.

Yep, that's what I was thinking as well- the bolt is behind the sheet metal and was added during the wooding process of the car. What's even more odd is that my Runabout doesn't have any evidence of a large bolt there either....
