Anyone had a set of round felloe wheels done recently ? Inquiring for a T buddy to assist in figuring some costs involved in 2 - 23" & 2 - 24". Stutzman or Calimer's preferred.

I just had a set of wheels in 24" clincher rims done at Stutzman's, and they were $350 each for a set of 4. The spokes were actually teardrop shape, with the round side facing the axle, and the sharp edge of the teardrop shape on the outside of the rim. They are not hugely different than the round ones, but I only confirmed their actual spoke shape about a month AFTER I delivered them to Stutzman's, and after seeing some original Brush wheels in Nebraska, I then called Stutzman and asked him to hold on starting on them until I could get home and send him a sample spoke. The man I visited in Nebraska had several known genuine Brush wheels, and lent me a half-set of one felloe and the spokes that attached to it, with permission to remove a spoke, so I could extract a spoke and send it to Stutzman as a sample for him to use. I assume that Noah Stutzman knew what kind of spokes to make as soon as he saw the sample, as when I visited him in Ohio, he had many, many different patterns that just slip into his spoke lathe and generate different styles of spokes as required. I doubt he felt it was anything special, and it was very close to a plain Ford round spoke, except for the very slight difference on the outside of the spokes. Noah Stutzman called me 2 days ago, and said my wheels were finished, so I need to send him a check.
When I dropped the rims and hubs off, he told me he was very busy, and the expected wait was 4-6 months, but he beat that, as he has only had the rims and hubs for about 3 months. I delivered them to him during the last week of June, and sent him the sample spoke the first week of August. Noah's shop is impressive to see, and he has a very busy operation, but with a lot of massive machines that make the work go quickly. Also, Model T wheels (and wheels like the set I took him) are pretty small potatoes to him. When I was there, he was working on some 10 foot mining wagon wheels, for a collector in Wyoming, which probably weighed between 800 and 1000 lb. easily. The wheel rims were 1/2" steel bands, 8-10 inches wide, and his wheel press will put them on the giant wheels with a gentle press of a lever. He also had stacks of other wheels, notably local wheels from the local Amish and Mennonite families, who use him as a regular repair shop, the same as normal people go to Discount Tire or a Firestone dealer. as well as wagon wheels, stagecoach wheels, and buggy wheels, for horse and carriage enthusiasts. This is my first set of Stutzman wheels, but the ones I saw when I looked at the wheels he had that were ready to ship, looked very beautiful. Noah Stutzman knows his work, and both he and his son are pretty quiet and hard-working. I was most impressed.

Just my 2 pfennigs.
