Firestone red sidewall Tire

Post by BobP » Tue Jan 23, 2024 7:29 am

I am looking for a Firestone red sidewall tire for display. I have a 1916 building with the original ad restored on it. A lot of people have never heard or seen one. Here are ads from the mid teens to 1920. thanks, Bob. five07458677eight.

A too much forgotten bit of automotive history!
Good luck! I do hope you can find and get one of those tires.

Those red sidewall tires are fascinating. I suspect there is a paint that would work to transform a black wall into one.
just thinking.

When did I do that?

And ! They came with the "non-skid" tread. Have to be the snazziest tires ever !!
Get a horse !

Hey there Rich and Rich!
You think the red wall and gray tread is snazzy looking? You should see the green wall on white tread! A private collector (who prefers to remain anonymous) that I have known for thirty years has one on his shop wall.
Such colorful tires were manufactured and sold from the early/mid 1910s into the early 1920s. That collector has several of those early tires on his shop and office walls.
Bob P, Thank you for sharing the advertisements here! I had found some advertising on the internet many years ago. However a computer meltdown in 2018 lost all the bookmarks I had for them. Packed away deep in storage, I have a couple early high class magazines that had color advertising in them. Among the few color ads were a couple for colorful tires. Advertising showing the colorful tires was rare, as magazines offering it were not common. Finding those magazines in an antique shop about fifty years ago was my introduction to this unusual bit of automotive history.
