Wheels on Ebay, what do they fit

Post by Mark Gregush » Sat Jan 12, 2019 1:52 am

Nice set of wheels but not Ford? He told me they were 25" but did not say if that was tire inner diameter or outside diameter of wheel. Note the rear hub and brake drum. I would like to pass on any info if anyone can help.

Unknown application to me. The rear hubs seem to be for round axle shaft, not tapered. Maybe someone knows :roll:

Maybe early T I think they had a straight axle with a pin through it. Jim

The early T round axle also used a pin, there isn't a hole for the cross pin on those hubs of the eBay wheels.

I'm pretty sure those are tapered rear hubs. On the front side, look how enormous the keyway looks compared to the hole, while on the backside, the keyway is more proportional the hole diameter. Obviously, the keyway size is constant, but the hole appears much larger in relation to it on the backside.

Still can't answer the question at hand however, as to what they fit. Not Model T ...

Maybe they were modified for something else? Ton truck maybe? If the spoke center is the same they''ll fit T hubs, hopefully.

I would have to check for sure but I think the TT brake drums are mounted the same way as the cars, on a machined lip/recessed and as far as I know all Model T brake drums mounted the same way from day one to 1927, on a lip or recessed. If the rims are true size of 24" that would mean the tires are 30X3, very small for a TT anyway. The hub center looks larger and bolt pattern smaller.

Well they sold for over 1200. Hope the person buying them knows what they fit and isn't a newbie in a bidding war thinking they got a great deal!

Agree. Those aren't T hubs, nor do they have same profile as pre-T like N,R,S, wheels.

The rear with that large drum is indeed straight through for a round rear axle, with a big keyway. You can see clearly thru the hole to the cement on the floor behind :shock:

And the front hub, unknown to me.....guess the winner bidder knows :|

I looked through my records and if they are the wheels I think they are, they were made in 2013. They are all 30 x 3" clincher non Ford wheels. I don't remember what they were to fit but the hubs resemble Chevrolet. The rear hubs are tapered and in the photo they appear to have a larger hub flange than the front hubs. The center hub hole probably is larger than used on the Ford wheels. Bill Calimer, Calimer's Wheel Shop

Update from seller;
Mystery solved. The wheels go to a 1910 Hupmobile. Hup stole a lot from Ford.

Bob save the seller, who knows they may be back up. Unless buyer has a Hup.
