Anybody seen one of these? TAPLATE Oil Pan Cover Plate 1923-1924

Post by StevenS » Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:10 pm

Does anybody have any information on this cover plate TAPLATE 1923-1924? It is designed to drain all the wells of oil, so no old oil is left in the wells.

Saw on ebay. Not seen one before.
You must have been the winner.
I like it!
To bad its not a 4 dip cover. I would have bid on it also.

Cool! I agree a 4 dip would be cool too. I have thought about adding drain plugs to the my 4 dip plate. Would sure save having to jack the front up to get all the old oil out! ;)
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

It also looks like it has more oil capacity in the dips. That is a great idea & it would help remove any small bits that will not come out even with
jacking up the front end. Having one drain instead of three or four would be convenient also.

That is GREAT! Someone should repop those, they would sell well in conjunction with the oil filter screen and magnet.

They could be reproduced in cast aluminum or pressed steel. I've thought of adding a drain to each dip, but leakage could be an issue. Deeper sumps with a gutter and a single drain port would be best.

Just a dumb thought, if there is a hole in the channel then wouldn't the oil run out of the front two dips into the third dip going up a steep
hill starving number one and two rods?

Good point. The gutter might need restriction orifices on the front two dips. A good auxiliary oiler would assure plenty of oil.

If you look closely at the center dip, it looks like the drain bolt come all the way up into the dip, effectively blocking off the drain tubes.

Yes, the plug cuts off all the passages, so the oil has to stay in each well when installed.
