Exhaust recommendations for 1925 T?

I'm working on a 1925 T and the exhaust pipe is crumbling. The Manifold looks good though. Is the Langs kit 4025EXS the way to go or is something else better?

Larry Smith once had great reproductions made of original exhaust pipes. You might check with various parts dealers and see if any of them still have a "Smith pipe" or two.

I read about how happy people were with the Smith pipes, any idea who has them? Also, which muffler would I need, I think they need original style cast iron end type, which I don't know if they were still using in 1925? The muffler on mine doesn't look very original. I'm happy to replace it if the right things can be identified and found.

I'd recommend contacting Larry Smith - he's in your area and might have some pipes left for the earlier style muffler - cast end style or modern repro.

If you want to be “original” for ‘25, the suppliers sell a sheet metal muffler that attaches to the frame with one bolt. I believe the muffler picture Dave posted above is a TSC product. I recommend them and have used them.

Yes 4025EXS is it. They fit right, they look right, they sound right, install in pre-existing hole in frame, available from the usual vendors, Langs, Snyders, etc., easy peasy.
Larry has not made tail pipes in decades and there is not a secret stash someplace.

The pipes that go all the way thru the muffler or something else?

I believe Larry's reproduction pipes went to the back of the muffler, the exhaust pipe being the first baffle. The difficulty making an exact replica is making the outwards upset in the pipe up to which the front plate of the muffler mates. Originally, this was a raised rim somehow formed during the making of the pipes. Larry found a way to replicate this, but it was not made by the same process. If one adopted the Canadian solution to this, the pipes would be easier to make. They simply drilled the pipe for a large cotter pin, and the front end of the muffler engaged on this pin as a stop.

The MTFC of Australia has RHD pipes reproduced in batches as needed. These have to be more precisely bent to clear the pedals and the foot stater switch. I make reproduction mufflers to the Canadian pattern, with a deflector for the back end plate. The only concession to non originality is the front end of the muffler pipe is expanded to accept the tailpipe. This allows for a slip joint in the system, and solves the problem of the raised ridge to engage the front muffler plate. The muffler is its own self contained unit, complete with riveted on mounting bracket and deflector on the back end plate.

The late Vern Campbell of Michigan, once made an exhaust pipe out of stainless steel that many acclaimed to be the best fitting T pipe ever made, however it was made for T's that did not use the late style muffler with the tail pipe going all the way to the rear end of the muffler. It was made as the 'short' style pipe that stopped just after entering the front end of the muffler. A few years back, I contacted his widow and she still had a limited number of the pipes available and I bought one. I also bought (while they were still being made) one of the stainless steel mufflers that had the curved rear exhaust pipe that exited out the side of the car, so I have a complete stainless steel exhaust system from the manifold to the rear of the car. It will never rust out. Also, recently I bought an original late style T muffler that someone had cut the exhaust pipe off about 12 " before the front end of the muffler. I'll be able to use it by mating the 12" pipe 'stub' to a regular reproduction exhaust pipe. I'll take pictures of it, disassembled and post picture, later.
