Holley G carb float… cork or modern replacement?

I’m rebuilding brass Holley G for my ‘14 touring. The carb I’m building has an OK cork float that needs sealed, but I thought I would replace it with the modern material float that’s available. First, the new float is about 3/16” thicker than the cork float. Is this to compensate for the flotation density between the two materials? Second, if you had your choice, would you use the new float or revive the old cork float? If using the cork, what’s best to seal it with?

I sanded the modern float to match the size of the original, working perfectly

I would use the modern float material. As far as buoyancy differences, it don't matter on a G. You will set the fuel level wet in the jet bowl.
I have used "line-a-tank" Green & white label to seal cork floats.

Cork is treated with shellac which are dissolved by ethanol/alcohol.

I also use a modern float sanded down to original thickness as recommended by others on the forum The material is soft and easy to work with.
