How good are the new u joints offerd by the parts suppliers?

they may be ok now, but I would look around for a good original one.

If you get one, be prepared to do some filing on the corners of the square part to get it to slide into the output plate. Luckily, I had an extra plate that I was able to use for trial fitting before installation. :)
