Front axle spring supports?
Does anybody know anything about these front spring supporst shown in the attached pics? Do they serve a useful purpose. Thanks for your help!

Aside from stirring conversation, I can't imagine what useful purpose they would serve. Maybe they were supposed to be some form of anti-rebound spring but I can't imagine them being the least bit affective, (or is it effective??).

They may serve to limit side sway on the shackles, a bit like a panhard bar does. Hard to see it being as effecfive. Pig ugly though.
