Ruckstell crown gear
Can the stock 40 tooth Ford crown gear be used in a Ruckstell rear end or is a special recessed 40 tooth gear required. I have a NOS 11 tooth Ford pinion to go with it.

Re: Ruckstell crown gear
A ruckstel takes the same gear sets a stock rear end takes. The recessed gear is used with a 13T pinion.
In your case, a stock 11-40 ford gear set will fit.

Re: Ruckstell crown gear
Just to clarify what John's replied above.
Ruckstell did produce a 13/40 ring and pinion set. The Ruckstell 40 tooth ring gear was different from a FORD 40 tooth ring gear in order to accomodate the larger 13 tooth pinion. A Ruckstell 40 tooth ring gear is recessed on the back side mounting surface similar to the 13-39 tooth ring and pinion set that was distirbuted by Mark Auto for many years. The Ruckstell 13-40 gears are usually pretty well identified with "13-40 and Ruckstell" stamped on the gears. The Mark Auto 13-39 gears and the Ruckstell 13-40 gears are not interchangeable.
