I've not found any evidence of plating on either of my 1913's, but I'm wrong! My understanding is they were either zinc or galvanized plated.
What a job it's going to be to get them right!

Larry, Here is a photo of an original gas tank with galvanized straps. This is an tank from a 1914 touring. I hope this helps. Russ Furstnow
