Post by TFan » Fri Apr 12, 2024 10:53 pm

Got a new wood kit for my coil box, wondering what if any color it should be or maybe just clear coat with some varnish. I searched the older posts but came up empty. Any suggestions wood be appreciated. (pun intended) JIm

Jim... I have used boiled linseed oil on replacement wood . Gives you nice color to the wood and also seals against moisture and carbon tracking possibilities later on..... One to three coats of oil after a few days to me is fine before assembling into coil box.

Need to ask Birdhaven :?

Tried to colorize an old photo. Didn't change much but looks like unpainted wood. We do know that Henry wouldn't add a process if it was unnecessary and added cost.
Yes sealing is advisable. I use Minwax wood hardner - it penetrates into the wood fibers. Others uses a variety of sealing methods

Thanks for the replies so far, I think the linseed oil sounds the best to me since I have some on hand. As far as the plastic or nylon I'm cheapskate so didn't even ask if it was available. Jim
