One bushing in brake drum???
Does anyone have a copy of Service Bulletins where it has to only install one bushing in brake drum. I am away from my Bulletins and someone ask me about that. Think it was late 25. Can you please post it here? Thanks Dan

I disagree with omitting that 2nd bushing.
That puts all the load/weight of the drum pack on the smallest & fastest wearing bushing.
Ford omitted this in late production. To save 1/2 cent per unit? Why the change after 13 or 14 million units?
If you have rebuilt the transmission correctly, alignment wont be an issue.

I agree with you, John but its worth pointing out that the 26-7 style driving plate is captured inside the brake drum and is way more secure than the earlier version where there is always a degree of slop in the lip that secures the driving plate to the brake drum, making the second bushing a necessity to hold alignment.
I have heard of rebuilders omitting the middle bushings thinking its not necessary even in pre 26 transmissions because Ford omitted it in late 25. In my thinking that is a big mistake.
BTW its pretty easy and inexpensive to make a driving plate alighment reamer pattered after the KRWilson reamer that indexes off the two brake drum bushings. Ive made a couple.

After they omitted the rear bushing I’m pretty sure that a matter of months later they began installing it again… It’s not good engineering to leave it out. The driven gear shaft needs that extra support.

I too have seen late original drums with one bushing installed .
However I've always installed two .
Makes more sense to have two installed rather than only one with the amount of load on main shaft, two share the load.
My high school drafting teacher told us; "Engineer may design it but takes a machinist to make it work".
