timer rod is too short...

I'm putting together an engine and would like to used my Anderson flapper type timer. The Anderson or Anco timer needs to be retarded more than a New Day or roller timer, so the timing rod needs a little straightening. However, this engine also has an outside oiler with a tube that enters in front of the timing cover. There is not enough length in a stock timing rod to clear the oil line and give enough retardation without coming in contact with the timer and shorting out.

I could just run a linkage over the water pipe... or make a longer timing rod, or ...?

I am open to suggestions.

"Some years ago I changed my 1923 motor from a distributor to an Anderson timer and Ford coils. The new timer rod rubbed on the outside oil line and the lower radiator hose making motion stiff and possibly even limiting full advance. Keith, if you convert your T to RHD, the connecting rod will be too long. The easy fix is to bend it a little more. :D :D

I ran and Anderson on my 26, the timer rod runs to the front of the oil line. Perhaps you need a slight bow to the rod to clear the oil line. I found the stock rod to be the correct length.

Keith, I think that I had to rebend the external oil line a bit too. Even then, my linkage rod slightly touches the oil line during full travel of the spark lever. Not enough to increase the force for moving the timing lever.
