Gas tank filler neck
I have an idea for one of our parts suppliers to make a pipe which will thread into the tank which raises the gas station nozzle just enough to be able to use the vapor recovery system and only one hand on the gas nozzle. It is difficult to hold back the recover system with one hand while using the nozzle with the other hand, especially on the cowl tanks of the later cars.

Motorcycle riders have been contending with this a long time. You want a Nozzle Buddy. http://www.millproprecisionmachining.co ... NZLBDY-200

They may be "required" in "non attainment areas", but I've never seen one. Hope I never do!

Norm, Try Synders Model T and A parts, under part A-9031 gas tank neck extension for 28-29 Model A Fords. A little pricey but should work as you describe. Not threaded , fits inside 28-29 tank with a gasket to seal, 28-29 A tank treads are on outside of tank unlike 26-27 Model T tanks.

Must be a CA thing. I have never seen anything like this in the Midwest.

Re: Gas tank filler neck
What if you took a long funnel for adding fluid into the automatic transmission of a modern car. Using a hacksaw, cut the small end off to just small enough to go into the gasoline tank about an inch. Then cut the large end down to where the top opening is about two inches. It might need to be a bit more or less to hold the vapor recovery back to function as it wants to. Be sure to clean up the cut edges.
The piece should stick into the gasoline tank and stay if not pushed sideways much, and have enough length to allow the vapor recovery to function. As with any cowl gasoline tank, some care must be taken to avoid spills.
I wish I had a car to try it out myself, but I do not. If someone would like to try it? I hope it works.

Re: Gas tank filler neck
The better DIY would be to buy a reproduction brass gasoline tank cap. A bit more difficult, but cut the whole center out of it, leaving just the threads and the ridge at the top. Then solder a piece of appropriate size tubing (about four inches long) into the threaded remains of the cap. Copper pipe would be nice, and a bit of a bell to enlarge the area for the vapor recovery might be needed.
This could be made very well, securely threaded into the filler on the gasoline tank, and almost spill proof.
Just another idea.

Looks like many States that had them can now remove them. However, some Local Cities & Counties may still require them.
