Brass Covers to Reduce Tarnishing

Post by MikeSommers » Sun Aug 25, 2024 7:40 pm

Does anyone know of a source for a set of covers (approximately 10) for a brass car. Langs sells headlight covers, but I would prefer to get a full set. I suspect some people will suggest that I get out my wife's sewing machine and fabricate the covers... but turning me loose with a sewing machine is like giving a 4 year old a machine gun.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mike, my GF has been looking into manufacturing these using my upholstery shop sewing machine. We have ordered the material and it is here, and have quickly sketched some patterns. Since we really don't have any samples to go by, we are basically reinventing the wheel on these while trying to decide sizes and slots where they can be slipped over mounting brackets & forks.

We made ours from silver cloth. It is used to store silverware and reduce tarnishing. They are not for use in the rain but work great for indoor storage. We also made a similar set of top material to protect the lamps in bad weather. It is worth the effort.

Brent,
That is great news. Put me down for a set. I am sure there will be many others that will be interested.
