Soon we will only have synthetic oil?

Went to the local Fleet Farm today to get oil. Everything was synthetic or partial synthetic. I finally found 2 boxes of conventional 10w-30 oil and bought both. I do not like synthetic oil in my T. It seems to leak more. Is the conventional being discontinued? Thoughts?

This'll land in the arena of MMO & such but synthetic in certain instances does not belong!
Ask any mariner who's tried it in his Detroit diesel...there's still plenty on the water yet.

Slight drift:

I run SAE 30 (HD30) in my lawnmowers and recently had a hard time finding it in Walmart and Menards. Turns out they still have it on the shelves but instead of putting with the motor oil in the automotive section like they used to, they now put it in the lawn mower section.

I also go to a lot of estate sales and, when I find unopened bottles of SAE 30 I buy it - usually only pay a buck. I guess I should also start buying conventional 10W-30 at estate sales when I see it.

I have run synthetic in my T. It runs fine but still needs to be changed often because of the splash system and no filter.

I bought 10w 30 semi synthetic recently. I returned it for credit after reading the label. "NOT suitable for motorcycles with wet clutches".

I use full synthetic in my T with no issues. It has Kevlar bands.

One reason you see so much synthetic oil is that so many cars and newer machinery specify it. I doubt you'll see it disappear anytime soon. Auto parts and Farm supply stores can be a good source.

I can still find it at all farm supply stores like Tractor Supply and Ral King. A gallon of Rotella T1,straight 30 diesel oil for less than $20 a gallon. But 6 months ago at same stores it was less the $17. Walmart has in quarts for $7.

Anyone have a source for cloth cover wire like is in a T wire loom? I’d like to get about 20’, like 12 or14 gauge!

I went shopping for 10W30 motor oil a couple weeks ago. I have always used Penzoil and have been buying it at Walmart for years. The only options that I found were a 5-quart bottle of Orielly's branded oil, and then at Napa, Valvoline, Penzoil and Napa brand oil by the quart. So, I got on amazon and ordered 4 of the 5 quarts bottles of Penzoil 10W30 delivered to my door.

I second what Allan said. Back around 1973, my dad and I went out to see YnZ Yesterday's Parts. We were working on a 1931 Chevy 3 window coupe.

Back then, Sid Young gave us the grand tour of his two car garage operation. In those days they were about the only game in town for reproduction wire harnesses. Back then, they were located in Redlands, CA.

Sid was a great guy and treated dad and I like he'd known us for years. My dad has been gone for years. Have no idea if Sid is still around or not.

Just to be safe if you're gonna keep that Dodge for as long as I do my trucks (20+ years) you might wanna start buying Rotella by the 5 gal pail and stock up just in case! I do plan to stock up on it this winter for the Ts. The F150 uses synthetic blend.

I do use Rotella in the big Buick V8 that I put into my '82 C-10, but The Dodge gets whatever the local Firestone store uses. Do they make Rotella in 5 W 20?

Synthetic oil is usually based on chemically modified petroleum, but can also be made from natural gas and other things. Every manufacturer uses different ingredients and processes to produce it. The idea is to produce a lubricant more stable under high temperatures, longer-lasting in the engine, and providing improved lubrication. Here's a quote from that article:

"Synthetic oil has molecules that are more uniform in size and shape than conventional oil, which allows it to lubricate moving parts more effectively. This reduces friction and wear on metal parts, which can extend the life of the engine and improve its performance. Synthetic oil also has better shear stability than conventional oil, meaning it maintains its lubricating properties even under high stress conditions."

These qualities are not really needed in our old cars since their tolerances are not like those of modern engines. I've used Synthetic oil with good results, but prefer the "real" oils.

I run synthetic oil in everything I own and never had an engine problem. I have a 17 year old Craftsman riding mower that I mow and blow snow with and even after 17 seasons it does not burn a drop of oil. My model A and Model T seem happy with synthetic oil also.
