A tire Rarity

Post by BobP » Sun Sep 22, 2024 4:09 pm

Hi, here are a set of rare tire savers. The first set I have seen. I am going to get them in shape for display purposes. Tires with tubes and maybe wheels.

Wonderful to see !! Added advantage, the “hobnail” studs would add traction for the era’s generally smooth tread tires !

How’s the condition of the leather ?
Get a horse !

Here is a story on the 1910 touring in the photo:

Those are fantastic!
I have only seen a few really good era photos showing such tire protectors. And yes, they were also intended to aid in traction before tire tread became commonplace.
Just incredible that some of these still exist in such good condition.

From NY. Looks like you got a nice set of snow tires there. They buckle us just like a pair of old ski boots.

Talk about a rare find! Not many of these survived. These are some items that got thrown out as the industry changed. Model T accessories that weren’t made of steel, tin, brass and etc had a better chance of surviving than leather or rubber items.

I have several brochures from Grandpa's Dealership. These are probably from the late teens. You can't believe the prices considering the wages back then .
