The "Mountain Fire" in Camarillo, CA was headed directly towards my home. Fortunately a piece of land had just been subdivided and was bare ground. With no fuel the fire stopped there just six houses away.

Chris, I feel for you. We had a similar escape from a rapidly traveling grass/crop/stubble fire heading straight for our farm and the native vegetation sanctuary we have spent years fencing and protecting. The fire was on a 3km front until a 90 degree wind change converted that to a 40km front which ran away from us.
