The above picture is of the speedometer drive and driven gears on my 1914 Roadster. As you can see, the two gears are not alighned with each other. What am I doing wrong? Or is this setup normal?

Which speedometer and gears do you have installed. Too me it looks to be a mix of wrong parts. You might need the shorter L bracket and S clamp.

What speedo? Ford Special? Pretty sure the arm with the hole takes the SW round 90 deg bracket with the tapered end, and then an intermediate bracket that clamps the swivel. Perhaps contact Russ Furstnow?

What you have cannot work. To get the cable drive gear parallel to the wheel gear requires the drive assembly to be rotated, which you cannot do because the wheel gear will not allow it. You need an L bracket and S clamp.

The clamp to the spindle arm w/hole is right, it rotates in the hole, could be the dia. of that S-W road gear is too much, the correct gears for that J-M Ford Special are J-M 35T 8P, and 12T 8P.

I don't have a speedometer but my right spindle is set up for one. In place of the nut there is a extension that the speedometer gears could attach to. It aligns with the same plane that the wheel-mounted gears would have.

That's a later mounting style Tim - early cars used a mount from the rear.

The bracket that holds the drive can be bent to the rear of the car to align the gears. This allows the two gears to run correctly. I hope this helps, Russ Furstnow

I thought I would get this problem corrected before I commented on my posted problem. I talked at length with Langs and he thought the bracket was bent. I inspected it and agreed with him, after all it is 110 years old. My son-in-law finally came up and we heated and bent the bracket to the correct shape and it now works just fine. Thank you everyone for your input, it is much appreciated. \
