What is a U channei

Post by Dennis_Brown » Sat Jul 12, 2025 10:27 pm

There is a pickup listed for sale and it says new U channel. Is that the piece that goes down either side of the frame from behind the bottom of the seatbacķ on a roadster to the rear of the body and connects to the floor under the turtle on a 26?
If that is it, are they available or do you manufacture your own?

That piece on my 26 pickup is rusted out for several inches behind the bucket.

Steel descriptions are basically the cross section shape of the steel being described. An i - beam has the cross section of a capital i or an H. Angle iron has the 90 degree cross section of an L. Flat bar is flat. Square bar is a square bar. Round bar is a round bar. U-channel has the cross section of a square U. The long sides of the Model T chassis is made of U channel. These shapes can be purchased in a wide variety of sizes. Sold by the lb.
