Horn switch advice, '27 Coupe

Post by Mike S » Sun Nov 02, 2025 8:30 am

My '27 Coupe has the horn switch on the side of the column with a metal bracket that wraps around the column. There are two tabs on the internal portion of the switch and one of those tabs that holds the internal portion of the switch and secures the entire mechanism has broken, making the switch loose. I've looked for a replacement for the internal switch but cannot seem to find one. Should I replace the entire switch mechanism with a modern one or keep trying to find the internal portion of the switch, or try to solder the tab back on the original? Thanks!

Replace with a better original, they are not hard to find and are not expensive.

Mike: In my experience that internal horn switch cylinder with contacts and mounting supports all molded together is difficult to find. I don't believe anyone is making that part at the moment. It took me over a year to find a usable original on the Forum classifieds.

That said, I'd suggest placing a part wanted advert, and maybe contact your favorite supplier to see if they might have that part. Best, jb

If you cant find an illusive usable original unit, repair what you have.
I have one with a tab broken away from the bakelite. Easy enough to make a tab & epoxy or hot glue it in place.
You have the other side as a sample.
A tab could be modified from an electric plug prong.

I'd like to see a photo of the damage.

Part number 8028x page 178 2015 Langs catalog.
Someone made the whole switch once. Should be some out there somewhere.

The original horn button came out of the center of the steering wheel.
