GeneraTor question

Post by Bryant » Thu Dec 25, 2025 9:20 pm

Looking to familiarize myself with the Model T generator. Picked this one up off the classifieds and was wondering what the piece sticking out the back is used for. Looks like a quick way to add a ground but I am guessing.

it is a failed spring in the oiler. It used to make the oiler spring shut. Now all it does is risk poking a hole in your finger.

Haha
It all becomes clear! I kept looking at pictures but noticed some had them and some didn’t. Was this an improved design? Or the opposite

When generators are rebuilt, standard practice is to fit modern sealed bearings and the oiler is no longer necessary, A set screw can be used to plug the hole, or the oiler can be retained for looks.
