Looking to familiarize myself with the Model T generator. Picked this one up off the classifieds and was wondering what the piece sticking out the back is used for. Looks like a quick way to add a ground but I am guessing. iam sure someone will know on here.

Re: GeneraTor question
it is a failed spring in the oiler. It used to make the oiler spring shut. Now all it does is risk poking a hole in your finger.

Haha
It all becomes clear! I kept looking at pictures but noticed some had them and some didn’t. Was this an improved design? Or the opposite

Re: GeneraTor question
When generators are rebuilt, standard practice is to fit modern sealed bearings and the oiler is no longer necessary, A set screw can be used to plug the hole, or the oiler can be retained for looks.
