Cocoa Mat

I was in a local IKEA store and noticed they had cocoa floor mats for sale. The mats are perfect for the rear floor of 1910-1916 touring cars and are very reasonably priced. They are large enough so that they can be trimmed and fitted to the floor and look to be durable and nicely made. If you need a correct looking rear mat, this may be the answer. The IKEA cocoa mats work great! Here's one that I got for our 1911 that I restored. It did need some trimming, but looks good and works well for a very reasonable price. I also have one that I will install in our current restoration project.

I believe a wool rug, not cocoa mat, is correct for 1916.

Within the past five or ten years, there were a number of photos posted on the forum of a complete, unrestored 1916 touring that had a wool rug that was the same as 1917 Rip Van Winkle touring's rug.

If I can find the thread(s) of the 1916 Ford in question, I will post them.

The MTFCI Judging Guidelines for 1916 states, "Cocoa type mat for rear of touring." You can use whatever you think is "correct", but this post is just to let everyone know of the great deal at IKEA. Russ Furstnow

I found a very similar mat at Home Depot for about $11.00 and it worked great until someone got into the car with something on their shoes that left a big stain on it. I took that one out of the car and it is now in front of my workshop doorway and I spent another $11.00 to get a new one for the car. It is like nothing ever happened.

The way they are made today allows for trimming. In the era of the T the mats were likely thicker and the fibre punched into a woven backing. That means the mat would fray to pieces if the backing was cut. They had to be made to size,
