Model T TT 5th wheel or ?

Post by John kuehn » Sat Feb 28, 2026 8:54 pm

Here’s a photo of what looks to me an early version of the so called 5th wheel. If it is was it a company made or was it available from a body maker. Learning something new about heavy TT Truck use.

The clue to that one is on the building. It allows lengths of timber to be carted which otherwise would not fit on a TT, regardless of the weight of the load. Other lumber merchants are likely to have similar units.

It appears to be a 1924 to 1927 TT with Ford supplied C-cab. Also equipped with a fifth wheel hitch which was a bit unusual still at that time, and special adjustable trailer for hauling lumber. The trailer axle and wheels with the "crib" for holding lumber slides along the long pole to adjust for the length of the lumber to be hauled.

I wonder what the pole was made of? Wooden pole? Or steel pole?
