Dad bought our steel-cab stake-bed TT in 1942. It is to eventually be inherited by my family, then on to an enthused Grandson, and is to stay beyond him with our family. This past Sunday afternoon gave me a glimpse into that future, providing a hint of promise that the TT will flourish.
My Grandson came to work on the truck, bringing along one of his friends for the first time. This friend had worked as a technician for the largest dealership in our State. Bewildered at what the friend saw, he said he "was wondering what he was getting himself into. Maybe drop a V-8 into it??" (NOT gonna happen!!!) I told him to "ignore half of what you know, cut that in half again, and we'll have a starting point!"
As the afternoon evolved, I took on the historian, teaching, advisor, and supervisor role. Logic and common sense became the 'M.O.' of the day! I likened it to be as if I was watching an enthusiastic feeding frenzy at our bird feeders! A Lang's catalog even helped to identify some new replacement parts. Identify those parts and make a list!!
It felt good seeing a couple of '20-somethings' with their youthful enthusiasm.... Strong suspicions are that the next time this Grandson comes to visit Grandpa's TT, there will be even more hands being involved. While always hoping for the future, it's also nice to have the faith that my Dad's plan will continue! YES!!!!
