Stale gasoline disposal

Preparing to remove old gas from my model T tank. What is best/safest way of disposing of the stale gas ?

I would find a repair shop nearby. They should let you pour it in their waste oil.

Easy way is to let it evaporate. Pour bit at a time in shallow metal pan, will be gone after short time.

For me, makes good cleaning pan with greasing parts, for soak and it evaporates. Safe, just not around open flames, and do it outdoors. Prefer to not scrub parts with wire brush in gas, but can use soft bristle brush, or cloth, but let cloth evaporate fully til dry, never pile up rags or store rags with any solvent in them!

Thanks, will check with locals. Many heat with waste oil not sure they want gas in it.

Dan has the best idea in disposing of old gas. Just let it evaporate. Won’t take long. Living in the country has its advantages. It’s good for killing grass around buildings. And yes we are carful about it!
Oil is a different story. It can be recycled and be used again.

Unless it’s REALLY scuzy just blend it into your daily driver a few gallons per tank full.

I go along with Les Schubert. I would dump a gallon or so into your daily driver that has about 3/4 tank of gas already. It'll burn. Repeat until the gas is gone.

Don has a good idea. Evaporation of gasoline causes air pollution! That's why the modern cars have closed fuel systems. They even have EGR to recycle blowby into the cylinders to be burned and a catylic convertor to remove gasses from the tail pipe.

It depends on how old the gas is. If the gas is over 6 or 7 years old DO NOT PUT IT IN ANY TANK, it will cause damage. Like other said, Set it out and see if it will evaporate. If its so old it wont then take a large coffee can and place it where it cant cause any trouble in care something goes south on you. Pour just a little in the car and light it and let it burn off. I just went through this with a 33 chevy. The gas was 7 years old and no one would take. I burnt off 8 gallons this way. It took me a week to do it as I only burnt off a little at a time. I had a 41 Olds a few years ago and the gas came out of the tank like syrup. I had to hold a torch on that for over a minuet to get it to light.

I you are in an area where its allowed, stale gas is great for burning brush piles. I use it as a cleaner too. Then it goes to the brush pile!

NO WAY!! No reputable shop will want this at the very least to put in their waste oil. Many times that oil is used for a waste oil burning furnace, often it's their own! KABOOM!. Mix it with some good gas, and as one guy said, burn it in your lawnmower.

I respectfully disagree....I would NOT put that junk in ANY engine I use !!
As far as volatility, sometimes old fuel won't even burn. And mixing 8? gallons with 200-500 gallons of waste oil is not an explosion waiting to happen. I put about 5 gallons in a 55 gallon drum and my buddy burned it in his shop heater. It was fluorescent green from my Gran Torino.

As far as using it to clean parts...if you can stand the smell, whatever.
I don't condone pouring it on weeds. I'm not a tree hugger, but that leaches into the water table eventually.

In the late ‘90’s I worked for a GM dealership and we had several occasions where we had to dispose of nearly full gas tanks of bad gasoline. The company that collected our waste oil allowed us to mix a certain amount of gasoline or diesel into our drain oil and the amount was fairly large. If I remember correctly, it may have been around 15%.

I would call a large, commercial oil recycler and ask.

Old, stale gasoline might be something you can get rid of at your community’s “household hazardous waste collection day”. I would imagine you would have to give them the containers too.

Our local refuse company accepts "household hazardous waste", which includes gasoline - you have to leave the container but can pick it back up later after being emptied.

Just save it and use it for cleaning dirty parts.

I was going to mention what Original Smith said in my earlier post. Old gas works well for a cleaner. If it’s a gallon or so save it for cleaning your T parts. Get a container and let your T nuts and bolts or other small parts soak for cleaning. Anything less go pour on your fence line for edging.
