Camshafts!
Hi all,
I know what camshafts and a youtube video from a Montana 500 winner/participant going 56 mph (not that I want to) attributing it to mostly camshaft. I see different camshafts from Lang's such as STIPE and Chaffin's catalog page 68. 'Reground' as well as 'Standard' as well as 'New Improved stock' and 'Hi Performance' What are the practical differences?

Re: Camshafts!
What do you want your car to do is really the question. Anything over 260, the idle normally needs to be higher. 270, 280, 290, 310's its rough at idle depending on the increase in numbers, (being lift and duration). Camshafts, gear ratio's, porting, increase in valve size, carburetor, and ignition all go hand in hand. Really, what do you want your car to do? This is the most important question, then you match the needs.
Hope this Helps,
Hank

Re: Camshafts!
If you want stock performance the 250 is good but I figure if your going to spend 400. for a new cam go the 280, the regrinds I stay away from, cam walking forward and wearing out quicker from grinding through the induction hardening, the 290 does well in a light car or speedster, the 310 you have to do some work on the block to get it in there at least on a couple I did? But if you want more power buy a different car that already has it!

Re: Camshafts!
MTFCTulsa has a series of pages explaining Model T camshafts and the tradeoffs of various grinds that are available. It’s quite a bit of reading, but afterwards, you should be informed enough to feel confident in making a decision that meets your specific needs. Here’s the link...

Re: Camshafts!
Thanks for the replies. I need to change out the original 1925 valves and worn/dished pushrods to prevent an 'incident' so probably have to take the cam out anyway. I take my Touring to church every Sunday, get groceries and do the Texas T party touring once a year. This is my first T and I have had it for 3 years, 100 smiles per gallon.

Re: Camshafts!
Seems like the 280 Camshaft will give a bit of a boost to normal runners like me without being overly aggressive?
