1905 Ford Model B photo

Attached below is a 1905 Ford Model B. Ford’s first front mounted, four cylinder production automobile. Note: both Ford’s earlier racers 999 and Arrow were four vertical cylinder speed creations, and his lesser known “baby” or skeleton racer (1904) consisted of two horizontal 2 cylinder Model A motors together with one flywheel.
Ford produced 500 284 c.i. Model B in 1905 and early 1906, a time when many well known makers including Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Thomas and Pierce also began producing fours. The Model B was a one season model, as was its companion 2cyl. Model C. The Model F followed in early 1905 and the three models helped propel Ford into a top 5 spot among domestic carmakers in number of sales for 1905.
The Model B was capable of 40 mph, and led Ford in 1905 profits with over 50% of Fords net gain (doubling the two 2cyl. models C & F in net profit). Today seven Model B are known to survive. This example is a later version of the model with sculpted radiator, later curved front crossmember and stronger front axle.
