Set of Five Schrader 777 Stems on Ebay (not mine)

Post by CudaMan » Sat Feb 11, 2023 8:50 am

A set of five (5) Schrader 777 stems and hardware has shown up on Ebay. I have no connection to the listing or the seller, just providing the link as a courtesy. :)

Those will fetch a premium, as they are as nice as they get...

Just to note, those Schrader 777s were commonly used on wood spoke wheels. The rim nuts and dust covers shown are the small diameter variety. Those were typically used on the late '25-'27 wires.

The commonly used stems on Ford factory wires were Schrader 888s. They're a bit shorter.

Thank you to Larry "Original" Smith and John "SpeedyT" Von Karvaly for the schooling they gave me on this subject when I was assembling the wheels for my '26 Touring.

For those that are bidding up in small increments using the stock Ebay bid process, here is a tip:

If you really want an item, you really need to be using an online sniper service, I use auctionsniper.com.

You enter the auction number into the sniper site along with the absolute maximum that you are willing to spend on the item.

The sniper program will put in your maximum bid for you, mere seconds before the auction ends. If your last second bid is higher than all the other last second bids, you will win the item at whatever price it took to win (often less than your maximum bid).

The charge to use the sniper site is a tiny fraction of the winning bid price, well worth the service.

You can bet that others are using such sites, so if you want to be competitive you need to up your game! :)

What valve stems were used on aftermarket rims like Pasco, Dayton, and others?

Noel, it would be interesting to know if the stems were sold as individual items. My guess is the stems came with the tubes, so you bought the tube to do the job and the stem was just there. I could be wrong, but it does not make much sense to stock the same size tube with multiple different valve stems.
