Re: Re-babbitted ball cap ( 4th. main )
Gene I need to replace my 4th main ball cap. Where should I take the measurement to determine if I need std. or .002 under? I pulled the rear axle assembly, and have quite a bit of oil in the torque tube leaking from the ball cap. Have to repair/rebuild rear diff as spool housing is cracked and leaking grease also. Oh the joys....

Re: Re-babbitted ball cap ( 4th. main )
Kent:
you will measure the clutch plate ... probably with a dial or vernier caliper ... with the ball cap removed you will reach into the hogs head with the caliper jaws and measure the outside diameter of the clutch plate tailshaft ...access is difficult with anything except a long jaw caliper or the removal of the hogshead ...
