E&J Headlights Wanted

Post by krmtrains » Fri Nov 21, 2025 5:05 pm

Hello,

I'm in search of a pair of E&J headlights for my 1913. Looking for something restorable that would match the existing patina of my car. This car was original a touring, and was converted to a pickup and modernized a long time ago, maybe during WWII. My father-in-law owned it since the 1950's. This is my first post, but it does look like I was able to get a photo to display. The headlights on the car now are aftermarket electric lights, and the use the original mounting forks. They are non-functional, currently.

Any help is appreciated!

That is a real gem Kevin. I hope you intend to keep it in that condition rather than restore it. Let it reflect it's journey through time.
I would not be in a hurry to replace the headlights. Those old electric ones are part of the car's story. They are likely more functional than the original gas lights. If you can find E&Js with the same patina that don't need restoring, you would gave the best of both worlds.
great find.

The plan is to keep her pretty much this way, as that’s the way my wife has always known her. I have a picture from the 1970’s of her dad driving the car in a parade with the whole family on board, and the car looks exactly the same. New tires, and fully functioning mechanicals. To me, the headlights are part of what makes an older T look “right”, so if I can find some in like condition, that is one change I do plan to make.

I now understand that there were three different models of E&J headlights that would be appropriate for this car; the 66, the 656, and the 666. As a novice, I’m not familiar with the differences between these. Was one considered “better” than the others? Was one model more common? As long as the two are the same, it seems any of the three would be okay.

I believe the model 666 were all brass. They are what I have on my 1912 van. The smoke bonnets on the black and brass model 66"s show the number 66 offset somewhat, that being the result of omitting one of the 6's from the 666 bonnet.

You’ll find some original black & brass 666 headlights too. E&J, like Ford used up their inventory when changing production. I have owned & seen several in the wild. I can’t or haven’t found really any difference in the models for 13/14 E&J’s, love to know if anyone else has found a difference.
