Jerry,

They list their items with no business information on the lower section of the page. Personal items are permitted under the rules and by laws. Services offered are in a separate group.

Henry,

Not trying to start an argument, just wondering where such a rule is stated. All I can find in the forum rules is this:

"In a response to purchase inquires, you can refer a poster to your website or ask them to contact you via email or private message. The Classified Section should be used for pure business advertisements."

With respect Jerry, it follows the rules of a 501C in that you are not allowed to promote a business directly but may post sources. This is to prevent shell businesses from forming in a non profit. Protect the club comes to mind.

All Good

I may be slightly wrong in this because it has been awhile, but I thought it was the IRS' rules that advertising was allowed as long as it was related to what the Charter of the 501(C)3 (-or actually (C)7 for this type club) stated the purpose (mission) was for.

Since the purpose of this Club is to promote the Ford Model-T, it would be against the Unrelated Business Income law if the Club published advertising for a Plumbing company, or a Landscaping company, et/al on their Club website or Magazine. The same would apply to a Church who received a paid advertisement for an Auto Repair facility printed in their Church Bulletin. Alternately, a Church can have a Bazaar or Fund Raiser to receive money (i.e.: income revenue) as long as it is within the mission of the Church. With regard to these Forum Classifieds, there really is not any Club income derived from these ads. Therefore there are not any laws being broken. In this particular instance, Seamus' ad is related to the general mission of the Club, so I doubt the IRS would even give it a second glance.

Now here is something that many do, -but do not realize. How many times have we gone to the Church and borrowed tables from the Fellowship Hall to bring home for a Garage Sale held at our house. Legally we are not supposed to do that because the tables were purchased as a tax-exempt item however when used in a private Garage Sale, they are being used in conjunction with a for-profit venture since items are being sold.

I like the Founder's idea of funding the LIMITED functions of the federal government with import duty revenue.
