Stevens Front Axle Tool; Complete set

Post by modeltbarn » Sun Mar 05, 2023 3:27 pm

This is a complete set with enough top and bottom bushings for three axles. You can buy these new; you'll spend a bit over $700 for the pieces (I did!) Price is $575 plus shipping. This will fit in a medium USPS flat-rate box.

There is a brass washer that goes on the bit when installing the bits in the frame to protect the frame, do you have it.

I'm not sure what bit you're referring to; there is a reamer and a tap. There is a steel washer that's in the box, not a brass one.

The washer should slide on the bit prior to sticking the bit into the frame, the washer is between the bit and frame hope this explains the washer

Original Stevens thrust washers are steel. New ones are BRONZE, make from old Front Spindle bushings.
Next to checking axle for hardness before reaming it, this is most important thing you need. I have heard of original frames being ruined by forgetting to use the thrust washer. Dan

Dan,

Thanks for the clarification, my washer came with the reamers I bought from you or the frame when I bought it, I don’t remember for sure.
