Not sure if this is possible or completely legal, but I would like to register my 1917 touring and need a title to do so. Have been told I would most likely need to contact a lawyer & get a court ruling. I live in Oklahoma & either the people at the tag agency don't know what they are talking about, or Oklahoma has made getting a title darn near impossible. I bought the car from my father before he passed away many years ago, & moved from UT to Ok.
Any Okies out there.... or any input on this?

Did it have a Title in UT in your name? Most states hav what is called a Bonded Title - sort of a temporary title that will get a full title if car is not reported stolen. Usually best to go through a Title agency - they no the ropes & have friends in low places.
Any way here is the process for a Vintage Vehicle https://oklahoma.gov/search.html?q=vintage+car+titles
There will be discussion about "Vehicle Identification Number" most clerks were born after it was started in 1954. Today a VIN number is a "smart" number " identifier to the detailed information in a Global database that contains the details of Make, Model, Year & Serial Number. For cars after 1954 it contains codes to indicate other information. The same database contains VIN,s for Farm equipment, boats, motorcycles, etc

As you can see some clerks can get confused when owners just want to use the serial number. What they don't understand it just a method to create a unique identifier that can be interpreted visually without having to reference the database. (HaHa!!) The reality is Ford mechanics might know some of heir code, but no one else's. The beginning portions of the code are globally regulated and then the Manufacture gets to use their own coding schema position 4 thru 11 with the last 6 expected to be a serial number. The funny part of the code is the position for year (A-W except the letters I,O,Q,Z because they look like 1,2 & 0)and the numbers 1-9. Since this started in 1980 A = 1980, B=1981 etc... then it starts over in 2010: A=2010, B=2011....
So the idea of using "smart numbers" is really just a "dumb" number to most people

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
