WTB: 1917 Towncar literature

Post by jaybee47 » Fri Oct 13, 2023 9:53 am

Seeking any literature copies regarding the '17 Towncar, articles, pictures, etc. Also asking what library can be contacted to obtain copies. The McCalley book does not include what I seek. Thank you for any leads.

The '17 towncar is a one year only odd ball and given Ford did not provide much in the way of brochures and advertising, there may not be much or anything out there in the public domain. There may be a MTFCA Vintage Ford or MTFCI Model T Times write-up over the years, but I do not recall seeing one in my 50+ years of on-again off-again membership. As to a library your best bet would be the Benson Ford Research Center located at the Henry Ford Greenfield Village complex in Dearborn MI. For them to find something for you, you need to provide some specific references for them to search, however, you may strike gold going there and researching on site. They have factory drawings, Ford publications, and all kinds of documents. Great fun and worth spending a day or two at. Free to look, small fee to make copies.

I have these two 1917 Towncar photos in my library, both of which you might already have seen. Nonetheless, here they are...

Talk to Kathy Tagert. She has a beautiful black model towncar. She knows who else has town cars also.
It is interesting that the top picture has 15 front fenders and fork mount headlights.

For us uninformed. Just how is a 1917 different than an other year?

Obviously the chassis changed but I took the initial statement to be that the bodies were somehow different???
